Test Manager  

Our client a Design & Manufacturer in Norwich is looking for an experienced Test Manager.  

You will be responsible for managing the Finishing Function (Test Department) in the testing & final preparation of the Company’s products.
This ‘hands-on’ position leads the development of the Company’s testing process & ensures products are functionally (mechanical, electrical & process) & statutorily validated in the safest manner possible whilst ensuring value at every stage of the process.
The role encompasses administrative responsibilities, including scheduling & ensuring full documentation & certification.

£40,000 - £43,000 Depending on level of experience 

Responsibilities of a Test Manager:

- Manage resources, people, scheduling & day-to-day activities of the Finishing Function. Assist, leading by example, with product testing activities.
- Liaise with Project Managers, Applications, Manufacturing & other stakeholders to ensure that products are tested & finished in accordance with requirements.
- Lead the development of procedures (test & final preparation) for all built products. Ensure the highest degree of test automation & integration. Champion internal process development, identifying & removing waste / non-value added activities.
- Ensure that the testing process is kept up to date / developed in the light of changes in legalisation, technology, Industry trends, client requirements, & changing business needs.
- Ensure the strict adherence to the Company’s Policies & Business Assurance Standards, Test Procedures, Safe Working Practices / Risk Assessments & Method Statements at all times. Be fully conversant with (& implement the requirements of) specific Health & Safety Regulations, including but not limited to: Electricity at Work, CDM, COSHH, VDU, confined spaces etc.
- Ensure that all records are maintained & fully up-to-date.
- Ensure that team members are adequately trained & fully aware of the use of safety equipment, the handling of dangerous substances & hazards. Provide tailored targets & objectives for team members.
- Ensure that the Test Area (wherever located) is exceptionally clean, orderly and house kept. In particular, ensure that test equipment, apparatus and cabling does not present a hazard.
- Ensure that during testing, the area is cornered off / arranged in accordance with Company procedures and only those persons authorised and competent are present.
- Ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service to clients during Factory Acceptance Tests.
- Attend site, when & if required.
- Actively assist in the development & harmonisation of the Company’s knowledge & productivity-based systems.
- Develop & maintain the Departmental Plan. Report Test department activities & Measures of Performance monthly to senior management.
- Develop, implement & review written Risk Assessments & Method Statements for equipment & activities in those areas within your responsibility.

Requirements of a Test Manager:

- 3+ years’ experience within a similar / relevant environment.
- A comprehensive understanding of both electrical & mechanical engineering & ability to interpret technical drawings (mechanical & electrical).
- Commercial awareness.
- Strong & proven Health & Safety awareness.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Educated to a minimum of an HNC in Electrical Engineering (or a suitable equivalent).
- Official / prior certifications, such as NICEIC.
- Strong & effective inter-personal & communication skills & the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients & personnel.
