What Have We Learnt From The Olympics So Far

Amazing so far, if you support Team GB. Better than Athens, best foreign Olympic games ever for medal haul and tracking to be better than London 2012.

We have so far learnt that a gymnast who spends 15 seconds spinning head-over-heels in the air will be penalised for taking the smallest of steps when they finally land. That horse ballet is actually called 'dressage' and that no-one knows what is going on in the Omnium, other than it is essentially 'battle-biking' with maths.

Watching Jason Kenny's Keirin final last night, I was looking tenuously for a link to the motor trade; my mind was drawn to the comparison between four years of abject unknown status before bursting on to the world stage as an Olympic hero; and that of the Motor Trade Motor Vehicle Apprentice Technician. I said it was tenuous. But actually not all that tenuous.

Jason Kenny, is a bit of an unknown, say Bradley Wiggins or Chris Hoy and we all know, but Jason, despite his Olympian feats over the last 12 Years is not a household name, yet; he's not even a Knight, again yet!

But someone has invested in him, money, time and training and yes he has natural talent and ability, but both he and his fiancé Laura were quick to thank those that had supported, trained and invested in them and ultimately enabled them to reach their goal.

The government's recent U-turn on the Apprentice levy has perhaps put the wind up a lot of people in the Motor Trade, but by straining the link here a little, is not investing in an Apprentice worth it if you find a gold medalist?

Four years, of time, effort, energy by them and four years of time, money and training by you and you could have the automotive equivalent of Jason Kenny.

Is the levy going to stop you? Are you prepared to find and nurture your Jason Kenny?
