Living and Working in Wales - Motor Trade Area Guide

Job seeker advice

With such a rich and diverse Automotive industry spanning all corners of the UK, we recognise that many of our candidates are willing to relocate in order to secure their dream role. While this can seem daunting at first, we’ve put together an area guide covering the key regions to give you as much information as possible in order to make an informed decision.

This area of Great Britain is a mixed and varied region, made up of large swathes of countryside and sporadically placed cities and towns. The concentrations of inhabited areas in Wales are predominantly along the South Coast; where Cardiff, Swansea and Newport are the largest populated areas and on the North Coastline where Bangor and Conway are among the largest populated towns. The Central areas of Wales are less densely populated.

Although Wales closely shares its political and social history with the rest of Great Britain, and a majority of the population in most areas speaks English as a first language, the country has retained a distinct cultural identity and is officially bilingual. Over 560,000 Welsh language speakers live in Wales, and the language is spoken by a majority of the population in parts of the north and west.

Wales has had a devolved government since 1998 when the National Assembly for Wales was created, following a referendum in favour of this held the year before. This gave additional power to the Welsh Government on issues such as agriculture, economic development, education, health, housing and transport.

Wales’ warm welcome, rich culture and wealth of natural resources provide for a distinctive way of life and inspiring opportunities to work and live. With stunning beaches spread across 870 miles of coastline, more than 600 castles to visit, hundreds of heritage sites to explore as well as the multiple national parks. For lovers of the outdoors, you’ll never be short of things to do. People living in Wales also benefit from its vibrant cities including Cardiff, Swansea and Aberystwyth as well as a passion for sport which plays a prominent part in Welsh Culture. Wales has played host to some global sporting events including boxing matches, the ICC Cricket World Cup, the rugby 6 nations and  UEFA Champions League Final in 2017. The food scene has a strong sense of individuality and a noticeable emphasis on local produce while Cardiff is rated as a top shopping destination.

Wales is well-connected to the rest of the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe via road, rail, sea and air. Cardiff is around 2 hours from London travelling by road or train. The average cost of living in Wales is considerably lower than the UK average although where you live in Wales influences by how much cheaper. The average cost of a property in Wales is £144k compared with the average UK of £216k.

The motor trade job market is fast paced and often competitive but our team covering Wales have the knowledge and expertise to help you secure your dream role. We recruit across all disciplines of the motor trade in this area for new and used car dealerships, commercial vehicle dealerships, bodyshops and motor vehicle accident repair centres and also agricultural dealers as well a whole host of other automotive businesses.
