As a Vehicle MOT Tester your main duties will be carrying out MOTs and MOT repairs as well as conducting routine servicing and maintenance of cars and LCVs.

Based in a workshop, it is important that an MOT Tester is able to work efficiently and to targets while paying attention to accuracy at all times. Depending on the type of Dealership you could be working on a wide range of vehicles or specifically with one brand; in these cases full training is provided. Typically a Vehicle MOT Technician would report into the Service Manager and work closely with the rest of the service team along with the Workshop Controller. Working within the servicing team it is crucial that the Vehicle MOT Tester is a team player who works well under pressure and has a passion for both customer service and keeping up to date with the latest automotive technologies.

Due to the nature of the job, employers will generally look to hire someone who not only has technical competence in the mechanics of a vehicle, but a thorough knowledge of the electrical and electronic components of a vehicle and the ability to use the latest diagnostic equipment. Other requirements for this type of role are NVQ level 3, a full UK Driving licence and an MOT license.

Typical working hours for a Vehicle MOT Tester are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary as well as the opportunity to earn a generous performance-based bonus. Basic salaries usually range between £24k -27k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual.
