As a Dealer Principal within the Automotive industry you will be responsible for managing a Dealership in its entirety. This includes the general day to day running of the operation, producing and implementing sales strategies, controlling and delivering the financial performance of the business, overseeing the recruitment process and staff development strategies as well as ensuring customer satisfaction and retention are prioritised at all times.

A Dealer Principal works within a Dealership and these can be independently owned, franchised or national businesses. Some Dealerships will have a wide portfolio of brands and manufacturers they work with, others will be specialist for one brand. The Dealer Principal will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with these businesses, managing their expectations and ensuring the smooth running of the operation as a whole. The right candidate should have exceptional customer service skills, knowledge of budgets and figures, along with the ability to maximise productivity and identify new opportunities to improve the operation.

This role is very target driven therefore excellent leadership skills are required to drive the performance of the team. As Dealer Principal you would be expected to motivate and support your service team to reach and exceed targets whilst ensuring processes are followed, that the team are fully compliant and that the dealership adheres to Manufacturer and Group standards at all times

Typical hours for this role are around 40 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working, depending on the employer and the needs of the business. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary, usually between £40-£60k, the opportunity to earn generous bonuses and other personal benefits such as a company car.

As this is a senior position, employers will be looking for someone with an excellent track record of Motor Trade Management in a sales based environment. A successful Dealer Principal will be business minded whilst also have the ability to get the best from the Sales Executives and the rest of the team. You will report into the Senior Managers and Directors therefore the ability to communicate with people at levels of the business is vital.
