Job seeker advice

A Habitation Technician is a specialist technician for caravan and motorhome vehicles. This role requires technical skills in order to conduct general fault finding and repairs, a multi-skilled back ground and the ability to work as part of a team.

Typically, a Habitation Technician is based in a Motorhome Dealership and will usually report into the Aftersales Manager. Every Motorhome Dealership will have its own way of operating depending if it’s a National Franchise or independently run however; most will expect a Habitation Technician to be able to carry out detailed habitation inspections, offer woodwork and internal repairs as well as Heating, Gas and Electric diagnostics and repairs.

As this is a specialist role it is important that the candidate has an excellent attention to detail and the ability to use their initiative to solve a variety of problems. Some employers will ask for a City and Guilds qualification or at the very minimum, experience of working in the motorhome/caravan service industry or within another similar habitation role such as boat building. A UK driving license is also required in this role.

The working hours of a Habitation Technician are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working, on a rota basis. Average salaries range from £20k - £26k depending on experience and some Dealerships will offer the opportunity to earn a performance based bonus.
