A Motor Factor or Parts Factor is a stockist of vehicle parts and accessories who will advise and sell their products to Main Dealerships, Independently owned garages as well as directly to the general public.

Parts factors can be independently owned or be national businesses but regardless of their size they are usually a busy environments with orders being taken over the phone, online and in person.

The main responsibilities of the Parts Factor Team are ordering and receiving parts, maintaining stock levels, handling customer queries and ensuring customers have the right part at the right time. They will be overseen by a Parts Manager who will ensure that the operation runs smoothly and generates a profit. They will usually be selling B2B so it is vital that they build and maintain customer relationships by offering a reliable service at a competitive price.

A Parts Manager will also be expected to motivate the team which would typically be made up of Parts AdvisorsParts Drivers, Parts Sales Representatives and Warehouse Assistants so it important they can lead by example and have strong leadership skills.

Larger, national Motor Factors will naturally have larger management teams. It is likely that there will be a group Manager who will be responsible for the success of a number of Parts Factors within a particular region. They will report into the Directors.
