Working for an Accident Repair Centre - Vehicle Damage Assessor

Job seeker advice

Accident Repair Centres repair and restore damaged vehicles after an accident or crash. They can be Main Dealer run Bodyshops or independently run Accident Repair Centres. They will work on a broad range of vehicle types, makes, models and manufacturers so a successful Bodyshop requires a range of skills across a variety of roles which collectively make up the team, headed up by the Workshop Controller or Bodyshop Manager.

A Vehicle Damage Assessor plays a vital role in determining the damage of any vehicle that enters the Bodyshop and the potential cost for repair. Accident Repair Centres differ from a general garage because they will typically liaise with the insurance provider and the customer to agree on costs before the repair goes ahead and the assessment carried out by the VDA is a huge part of this. For this reason they must have a fantastic eye for detail to carry out first class inspections.

There is an element of administrative work involved in the role of Vehicle Damage Assessor as they are required to calculate the time and costs involved in completing all necessary repairs, complete records and compile reports on every vehicle.

Working in an Accident Repair Centre provides a diverse and rewarding career with plenty of scope for personal development and career progression.

If you are looking to fast-track your automotive career in an Accident Repair Centre or Bodyshop, you have come to right place.
