The role of a Bodyshop Paint Sprayer is a hands-on one. The main duties involve preparing vehicles to be sprayed, mixing paints to ensure a perfect match, re-spraying vehicles and carrying out thorough checks on completion to ensure there are no defects. This role requires an exceptional eye for detail and the ability to carry out work in a safe and economical manner.

As a Paint Sprayer or Paint Technician you will work within a Bodyshop, this could be part of a Main Dealership or an independently owned Accident Repair Centre. Typically, you will report to the Workshop Controller and will be expected to use a variety of equipment to carry out your work including paint mixing schemes, spray booths and drying lamps. Keeping up to date with the latest technology and using every piece of equipment accurately is key to delivering the best standards.

Most Paint Sprayers will work with a wide range of vehicles and manufacturers so knowledge and understanding are key to this role. There is also an element of administration involved as a Paint Sprayer, as you will be expected to document your work and the materials used, maintain customer record and report all faults and defects found when working on any vehicle. Employers generally require candidates to be a fully qualified Paint Sprayer to City & Guilds level or equivalent.

The role of a Paint Sprayer is target driven and has scope for growth and promotion for the right person. The career path for an experienced and ambitious Paint Sprayer could lead to Estimator, Workshop Controller, Quality Controller right up to Bodyshop Manager.

Typical working hours for a Paint Sprayer are up to 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday but could involve working an occasional Saturday as and when required. Salaries can reach up to £30k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual and most will have the opportunity to earn a bonus.
