Job seeker advice

A HGV Trailer Technician works specifically on servicing, repairing and maintaining HGV vehicle trailers. This role requires work which reaches the company guidelines and that of current mandatory & EHS legislation. For this reason, the role of a Trailer Technician requires someone who is fully a qualified and experienced automotive technician who has a strong attention to detail and a firm understanding of EHS legal policies and procedures.

As a Trailer Technician you would typically be based is a busy Commercial Vehicle Workshop and would report into the Workshop Controller. Working closely with the rest of the service team you will undertake all aspects of maintenance on the trailers including routine servicing and inspections, preparing for MOT and completing any repairs that are required.

Due to the size of the vehicles involved in this job, employers will generally look for a Fully Qualified Technician. Some will ask for experience of working with LCV’s and HGV’s however, this could also be a great stepping stone for an experienced Car Technician with the right attitude and willingness to learn.

The average working hours for a Trailer Technician are around 40 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend and out of hours work. Some Commercial Bodyshops will offer roadside repairs so a full UK Driving license is required for this role as well as being open to additional work on a rota basis. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £24k -£30k (plus overtime) depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual. Some businesses will provide a company van equipped with tools.
