Reporting to the Departmental Manager and working as part of a long-standing and friendly team, as a Vehicle Body Technician, you will be primarily accountable for the full cutting and fitting of window apertures in our client's brand new "Panel Van" production line.
Responsibilities shall include:
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to assemble panel campervans and make sure they are watertight with windows and fittings.
- Carry out vehicle body inspection to a high standard within agreed timescales.
- Log scratches & dents on central database and work with other departments to reduce level of bodywork damage.
- Actively engage with colleagues and Managers, ensuring that new operatives understand our client's values and why they do things the way they do.
- Ensure all relevant procedures are aligned with SOP, keeping them up to date when appropriate in collaboration with other departments.
- Working with other departments to reduce any quality trends and increase Right First Time.
- Support other team members with route cause analysis and if needed the re-training of operatives or redesigning of SOP.
- Actively promote health and safety culture, making sure that all activities and training prioritise safety first and the quality at all times,
- Assess production needs in terms of skill sets of operators in the area, recommending cross training of operators or additional training courses, if required,
- Any additional ad hoc duties that you may be expected to perform a requested by the Department Manager
You will have recent or current experience in campervan conversions (specifically the fabrication and cutting of apertures in the campervan) and confidence cutting metal body work using a variety of tooling such as Air Saw and Nibblers.
Overall, you will have the ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders, gathering feedback from internal sources and external retailers, be approachable, have strong people and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor colleagues, have a methodical approach to your work and training, ensuring 100% compliance throughout the department, be literate with the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and drawings, and have good verbal and written communication skills.
