Workshop Controller / HGV Technician – Commercial Dealership (Lutterworth)
  • Position: Workshop Controller / HGV Technician
  • Location: Lutterworth
  • Basic Salary: £23 per hour
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours
  • Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pm
  • Week 2: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Alternate Saturdays: 6:00am – 12:00pm (paid at overtime rate)
  • Guaranteed salary with Saturday overtime: £52,000+
  • Additional overtime available
My client is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller / HGV Technician to join their busy commercial workshop in Lutterworth. This is a fantastic opportunity for either an existing Workshop Controller or a highly experienced HGV Technician looking to take the next step into a supervisory role while still remaining hands-on.

They are a respected, large-scale independent distributor of Heavy Commercial Vehicles, known for their excellent working environment, career development, and long-standing employee benefits.

This dual role offers the perfect balance between leading a workshop team and continuing to carry out high-level technical work on heavy vehicles and trailers.

Key Responsibilities for the Workshop Controller / HGV Technician:
  • Oversee daily workshop operations, including job allocation, workflow planning, and maintaining high productivity levels
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and mentoring to the workshop team
  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a wide range of HGVs and trailers
  • Diagnose complex faults and complete repairs to VOSA and manufacturer standards
  • Liaise closely with service advisors, the parts department, and management to keep work on schedule and ensure strong communication across departments
  • Conduct quality checks on completed jobs, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to a high standard
  • Accurately complete job cards, service documentation, and time records
Requirements needed for the Workshop Controller/HGV Technician:
  • Experienced HGV Technician with extensive workshop background
  • Previous supervisory, team leader, or controller experience highly desirable
  • Recognised heavy vehicle qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ or equivalent)
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities
  • IRTEC licence (advantageous)
  • Confident communicator with strong organisational skills
  • Ability to lead a team while still working proactively on the tools
  • Full UK driving licence
