Our client, a franchise-approved commercial vehicle dealer group with multiple sites nationwide, is looking to hire a Manager to oversee the Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) they have in Didcot.
Reporting to the senior management team, and working as part of a friendly workshop team maintaining a fleet of light commercial and heavy goods vehicles, as a VMU Manager, your key objectives will include:
- To plan and control your workforce resource availability to meet customers’ fleet demands.
- To manage and control labour costs, including any use of third parties.
- To comply with safety audits and manage the working code of practice for contractors.
- Ensuring planning for facilities, bays, machines, tools, diagnosis installations, etc., is carried out correctly, optimal design of workplaces and processes.
- Preparing planning and calculations for investments in workshops, facilities and HR, together with the senior management team.
- Regularly review prices for workshop services and, after prior agreement with senior management, adapt them to suit the market.
- Measure and report on daily workshop performance around retail sales, warranty and internal contract.
- Work in progress (WIP) management and cash control.
- Employing new staff and carrying out effective induction.
- Managing, coaching and motivating employees, ensuring retention of high-quality team members.
- Defining target agreements with employees and reviewing the level of target achievement.
To be eligible, you will need to be level 3 qualified (NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (either light or heavy) and ideally have experience at a supervisory/managerial level. You will be a resilient person, a strong communicator with your team and our client's customers, a brilliant team player inspiring others, and have strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise and complete tasks within timeframes to meet customer demands and maintain workshop efficiency. A HGV driving licence is highly advantageous but is non-essential.
