An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced automotive professional to join a growing fleet consultancy based in Bedfordshire, as a Maintenance Controller.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who is looking to move away from working on the tools and into a professional, office-based fleet environment.

The company works with corporate clients operating vehicle fleets, providing a range of fleet management and consultancy services. Due to continued business growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Maintenance Controller to join their team.

As Maintenance Controller, you will be responsible for managing the repair and maintenance process for a portfolio of vehicles, acting as the key link between garages, drivers and corporate clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Assessing repair requests submitted by garages through the company's in-house system.
  • Reviewing proposed repairs to ensure they are necessary and valid.
  • Checking labour times and ensuring repair recommendations are reasonable.
  • Authorising repairs and controlling the maintenance process.
  • Monitoring vehicle downtime and ensuring repairs are progressed efficiently.
  • Liaising with garages and repairers to arrange and coordinate work.
  • Arranging hire and replacement vehicles where required.
  • Keeping drivers updated on repair progress and expected completion times.
  • Maintaining accurate records and updating internal systems.
  • Building strong working relationships with repairers, drivers and corporate clients.
We’re looking for an experienced automotive professional with strong technical knowledge and an understanding of vehicle repairs and workshop processes.

You may be a Workshop Controller, Vehicle Technician, Diagnostic/Senior Technician, Service Advisor, or Fleet Maintenance professional looking to move into an office-based role and take the next step in your career.

Strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to assess repairs, labour times and repair requirements are essential.

Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle repairs and workshop processes.
  • The ability to assess whether proposed repairs are necessary and reasonable.
  • An understanding of labour times and repair procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Good IT skills and confidence working with internal systems.
  • The ability to manage multiple vehicles and repair jobs simultaneously.
  • A professional and customer-focused approach.
Previous fleet experience would be advantageous, but strong automotive technical experience will also be considered.

Benefits:
  • No weekend work.
  • 23 days' holiday, increasing annually up to 28 days.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Opportunity to move into an established fleet environment.
  • Excellent opportunity for an experienced automotive professional looking to move away from the workshop floor.
  • Growing business with long-term career potential.
