Our client, a long-established franchise-approved commercial vehicle dealership in the Caerphilly region, is currently looking to recruit a Mobile HGV Breakdown Technician to work across South Wales (CF, NP, and LD postcode regions specifically).
  • Salary: £22 per hour when working on a mobile basis, reducing to £19 per hour when working in the workshop plus additional standby payments and overtime on top.
  • Hours: 40 hour week, working on a 1 week mobile/1 week workshop rotation. Mobile weeks operate on a 24/7 on-call basis.

Reporting to the Service Operations Manager, as a Mobile HGV Breakdown Technician, you will work on a 1 week mobile/1 week workshop rotation. During your mobile weeks, you will be provided with a fully equipped company van, business fuel card, mobile phone and diagnostic equipment, and be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and breakdown recovery of light and heavy goods vehicles roadside and out on sites across the CF, NP, and LD postcode regions. You will be on call 24 hours a day for the 7 days you are working on a mobile basis, with additional standby payments and overtime available.

During your workshop weeks, you will work either a 6am-2pm or 2pm-10pm shift pattern, carrying out the diagnosis, servicing, maintenance, and repair of HGVs within the dealership workshop.

To be eligible, you will need to be qualified to IMI/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, with experience working across all levels of HGV maintenance and repair. A current Class 1 HGV driving licence is preferred but not essential. You will have excellent mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic skills, be Health & Safety aware, have good communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently. You will also need to provide your own tools and fully equipped toolbox suitable for carrying out mobile repairs.

  • Rates of pay are £22 per hour when working mobile, and £19 per hour when in the workshop.
  • Standby rates are £15 per weekday and £25 per weekend day.
