Automotive Career Guide – Bodyshop Manager

As a Bodyshop Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the general operation by managing the Bodyshop team which would typically include the Bodyshop Controller, Panel Beaters, Paint Sprayers, Estimators, Technicians and the Administration team.  As a manager you will be required to liaise with customers, insurance companies and colleagues to help ensure efficient vehicle repairs, customer focus and managing team objectives.

Bodyshop Managers are based within Accident Repair Centres which can be franchised, national businesses or independently owned.  All will have their own ways of operating but will expect a Bodyshop Manager to professional at all times, as well as exemplary leadership skills, excellent knowledge within the accident repair industry and be highly motivated.

Typical hours for this role are around 40 hours per week, some autotrade businesses may expect a Bodyshop Manager to work some weekends but this depends on the employer and the needs of the business.  In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £40-£55k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual.

Naturally, due to the nature of the job, you will need to have a full UK/EU Driving Licence and managerial experience within the automotive accident and repair sector this could include assistant Bodyshop manager or other managerial positions. You will be expected to support colleagues with knowledge, skills and expertise to improve business performance and profit which is why experience is crucial.
