The role of a Vehicle Technician  requires a fully qualified individual that prioritises safety and quality at all times. The main duties attributed to this role include servicing vehicles, carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers' guidelines, repairing and replacing faulty parts and components and maintaining repair and service records.

Based in busy service departments, it is essential that a Vehicle Technician can work efficiently and to targets while paying attention to accuracy at all times. Depending on the type of Dealership you could be working on a wide range of vehicles or specifically with one brand; in these cases full training is provided. Typically a Vehicle Technician would report into the Service Manager and work closely with the rest of the service team along with the Workshop Controller. At times this role will require direct interaction with customers so a friendly and professional approach is key.

Due to the nature of the job, employers will generally look to hire someone with qualifications to NVQ level 3 or equivalent as a minimum or previous experience working as a Vehicle Technician. A full UK Driving licence is also required for the role. Working within the servicing team,it is crucial that a Vehicle Technician is a team player who works well under pressure and has a passion for both customer service and keeping up to date with the latest automotive technologies.

Typical working hours for a Vehicle Technician are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £22k -£35k depending on the location of the Bodyshop and experience of the individual. Technicians will receive a guaranteed base salary and in some businesses are rewarded a monthly efficiency bonus.
