The main duties of a Bodyshop Panel Beater include repairing damaged vehicles by removing and repairing damaged panels and using specialist equipment and techniques to restore the bodywork. In addition, a Panel Beater will be required to ensure all repair and maintenance records are kept up to date and may also be expected to carry out road tests to ensure the high quality of repair.

As a Bodyshop Panel Beater you will be based in an Accident Repair Centre, these vary in size; some are national businesses, others are family run or independently owned. Each will have its own way of working but will expect a Bodyshop Panel Beater to be enthusiastic, self motivated and a team player. Working as part of a busy team means communication is key. It is important that a Panel Beater works closely with the Vehicle Strippers/ Fitters, Estimators and Workshop Controller to ensure targets are met and work is completed to the highest standards.

Due to the nature of this role, candidates should be experienced in all aspects of body panel repair and replacement. You will have to meet timescales and work in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications. Some employers will request that Panel Beaters have an NVQ Level 3 qualification, others will accept worked experience.

Typical hours for this role are up to 40 hours per week, some autotrade businesses may expect a Bodyshop Panel Beater to work some weekends but this depends on the employer and the needs of the business.  In return, you will be rewarded with a competitive salary, the opportunity to widen your knowledge of how a Bodyshop operates and opportunities for career progression. Basic salaries can reach up to £30k depending on experience and some businesses will offer even higher bonuses.
