The role of an Aftersales Manager in the Motor Trade is a diverse and hands on one. It comes with much responsibility as the Aftersales Manager can be expected to manage the Aftersales team,consisting of; Technicians, Workshop Controller and Service Advisors, Administrators and Parts Advisors, as well as managing the performance of a team of Sales Advisors. The primary function of the Aftersales Manager role is to provide support to the customer post-sale. This involves handling any enquries, following up with them once they have recieved their vehicle to ensure everything is up to standard and ensuring their overall experience is a positive one to encourage customer loyalty.

Aftersales Managers generally work within a Dealership and these can be independently owned, franchised or national businesses. Most Dealerships will have a wide portfolio of brands they work with and the Aftersales Manager will be responsible for maintaining strong working relationships with these brands. The right candidate would have exceptional customer service skills, knowledge of budgets and figures, along with the ability to maximise productivity and identify new opportunities to improve the operation.

This role is very target driven therefore excellent leadership skills are required to ensure the service team meet these targets. As Aftersales Manager you would be expected to motivate and support your service team to perform whilst ensuring processes are followed and that the team are fully compliant.

The role of Aftersales Manager requires someone with experience of the Motor Trade or a similar role. This could include promotion from Vehicle Service Technician to Service Advisor or Assistant Aftercare Manager. Candidates working at a similar level may look for an alternative automotive industry executive job.

Typically, the hours of work for an Aftersales Manager are 40hours per week with the possibility of working weekends on a rota basis; this will depend on the dealership you are working for. This role comes with a good salary, typically £40k upwards, plus a rewarding and well respected career in the Auto trade.
