HGV Mechanic / Fleet Technician - Walton on Thames

Are you an experienced HGV mechanic looking for a rewarding role within a family-run haulage and transport company? We are working on behalf of a reputable business based in Walton on Thames that is seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic / Fleet Technician to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established fleet and develop your career in a supportive environment.

Benefits
  • Competitive hourly rate of £20 to £25 per hour, equating to a basic annual salary of approximately £52,000 depending on experience
  • Overtime paid at time and a half, with most technicians earning 50+ hours per week
  • Working hours from 07:00 to 16:00 or 17:00, Monday to Friday, with optional overtime available

Duties
  • Servicing and maintaining a fleet of approximately 50 lorries, mainly Volvos and DAFs
  • Conducting general preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and defect repairs on HGVs and trailers
  • Performing day-to-day mechanical repairs ensuring vehicles are kept in optimum condition
  • Liaising with the team to ensure efficient workshop operations
  • Using your own basic mechanic tools, with access to heavier and specialist equipment provided by the company
  • Supporting the company’s growth by mentoring less experienced mechanics if required
Candidate spec
  • Proven experience working as an HGV mechanic or fleet technician
  • No formal qualifications required; main focus is on relevant HGV experience
  • Air tech experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Class 1 or Class 2 licence is desirable but not mandatory
  • Owns basic tools needed for daily mechanical work
  • Reliable, hard-working, and eager to develop within a friendly team environment
