- Location: Walsall, West Midlands
- Salary: up to £40,000 Basic | OTE £50,000 | Company Car
- Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm with Saturdays: 8:30am – 12:30pm (1 in 2 rota)
This is a hands-on, senior position within a fast-paced independent garage environment, working predominantly with a mix of cars & LCVs and a strong trade customer base. Unlike main dealerships, this role requires a highly capable individual who can oversee and actively contribute to every stage of the service and repair process.
Key Responsibilities for the Service Manager
As Service Manager, you will be responsible for the complete day-to-day running of the aftersales department, including:
- Full responsibility for the day-to-day running and performance of the service and workshop operation, including managing staff and ensuring an efficient workflow
- Leading and supporting the Service Advisor and Technicians, driving productivity, performance, and KPI delivery
- Maintaining high standards of customer service, handling escalations, and overseeing all bookings through to job completion and invoicing
- Using strong mechanical knowledge to support diagnostics, repairs, and job costing, including oversight of parts sourcing and labour times
- Monitoring performance through reports and systems, utilising DMS, Autodata, 1Link, and general IT tools
- Proven experience as a Service Manager or Senior Service Advisor within an independent garage
- Strong hands-on approach with the ability to manage and deliver operationally
- Excellent mechanical knowledge of cars and light commercial vehicles
- Experience working across the full service process (not siloed roles)
- Confident using:
- Dealer Management Systems (DMS)
- Autodata
- 1Link
- Microsoft Outlook & Excel
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-role environment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Full UK Driving Licence.
This role would suit someone from a large independent garage background who is used to being fully involved in the day-to-day running of the workshop. Candidates from main dealerships may find this role too hands-on unless they have prior experience in a hands-on, varied environment.
