HGV Trailer Technicians work specifically on servicing, repairing and maintaining HGV vehicle trailers. It is a busy sub sector of the motor trade due to the sheer number of Trucks on the roads of the UK.
They can be found working within Commercial Dealerships, Fleet and Logistics companies and Haulage firms. Working closely with the rest of the service team, HGV Trailer Technicians will undertake all aspects of maintenance on the trailers including routine servicing and inspections, preparing for MOT and completing any repairs that are required. This role requires work which reaches the company guidelines and that of current mandatory & EHS legislation.
The working hours of a HGV Trailer Technician vary from business to business but as a Truck Mechanic you can expect to work a 40 hour week, usually Monday to Friday. It is worth noting that some of Commercial Vehicle businesses operate on a shift basis, either Nights or Day shifts. It is also common that Commercial Vehicle Technicians will work additional hours paid at overtime by being on call for a 24 hour period.
Progression in a career as a Commercial Vehicle Mechanic can involve becoming a Shift Supervisor, a HGV Service Manager or a Depot Manager.
