Job seeker advice

The role of a Master Vehicle Technician is a specialist one which requires a fully qualified individual who can deliver high quality work at all times. Master Technicians are generally thought of as the leading technical experts within the team and are both highly experienced and respected.  The main duties attributed to this role include servicing vehicles, carrying out checks and maintenance according to the manufacturers' guidelines, repairing and replacing faulty parts and components and maintaining repair and service records.

In most instances a Master Technician will be based in a Main Dealership and will be an expert for a particular brand. It is essential that a Master Vehicle Technician is highly skilled in fault diagnoses and working on complex repairs and diagnostic repairs. Working as part of the service team you will be required to support the rest of the team when required and act as a mentor for the newer Service Technicians. Typically a Master Technician would support the Service Manager and Workshop Controller to drive the business forward.

Due to the specialist nature of this job, employers will generally look to hire someone with qualifications to NVQ level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair as well as a proven track record of success in this role. A full UK Driving licence is also a requirement for this position.

It is crucial that a Master Vehicle Technician is a team player who works well under pressure and has a passion for both customer service and keeping up to date with the latest automotive technologies. This role provides the opportunity for regular training and development and for the right person is a stepping stone to more senior positions.

Typical working hours for a Master Vehicle Technician are up to 45 hours per week and this will generally include some weekend working. In return, you will be rewarded with a great salary; usually between £26k -£35k depending on the location of the service centre and experience of the individual. Technicians will receive a guaranteed base salary and in some businesses are rewarded a monthly efficiency bonus.
